Puzzled and Confused.
« on: October 25, 2009, 05:21:17 am »

Hello Everyone,
I am really sorry if i am repeating a question asked her before, but i searched this site and google my concern and i have not been able to come up with an answer. I presently have vista installed on my computer. I want to run backtrack 3 on my computer so i installed a virtual machine workstation. I also went out and bought a Linksys WUSB54GC ver.3. I installed backtract 3 using my Virtual Machine and under the Removable Devices, i can see compact wireless-G USB Network Adapter selected.  The problem is when i open a shell, and do the ifconfig command, i am not seeing rausbO interface. I tried installing the latest rt-73 drivers, but i am getting an error message. Can someone or anyone assist me in having this problem rectified? Thanks in advance.

What is the FCC ID printed on the dongle?

Why aren't you also trying backtrack 4 pre-final?

Hello hatake kakashi,
Thanks for your assistance in trying to help me figure out the cause of the problem  that i am encountering. In response to the two questions that you asked, my response is as follows:

(1) The FCC ID printed on the dongle is Q87-WUSB54GCV3.

(2) The reason why i did not use backtrack 3 is because i thought back track 3 can work with my dongle.

Thanks in advance for your response. I really appreciate it. Thanks.

bluekiss2020,

If you need RT73 support, you should try BT4 or Slitaz: http://aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=slitaz

Hello darkAudax,
Thanks for your advise and your input. I really appreciate it. I have downloaded BT4 VMware Image and run it in my virtual machine, and i am having the same problem that i outlined above that is under the Removable Devices, i can see compact wireless-G USB Network Adapter selected. I type in the command airmon-ng, and i am not seeing any device listed. I would really appreciate if someone can assit me in having my problem resolved. Thanks in advance.

Don't get me seriously at all because I'm a total noob, but I thought when using a virtual machine you can't run the real hardware...

Albert,

Please refrain from posting on topics you don't have authoritative knowledge.  Of course virtual machines can access supported hardware on the host system.

Well a friend of mine was using a virtual machine and he told me that he used it to program scripts only because in order to be able to access the real hardware he had to use the live-cd, does this have any base or he is just a noob as me?

Albert,

That is my point, don't comment on things you don't truly know and understand.  Hersey from a friend does not count as authoritative.

You annoyed everyone on the channel today with this type of approach.  I have removed your #aircrack-ng ban.  Please be more careful in the future not to annoy everyone.

I will ban you from the forum if you continue to post on topics you are not authoritative.

I thought I could help, and I clearly stated that my info was not reliable, not gonna do it again then.

Well, sorry if my questions annoyed everyone, I was just trying to get answers, and I honestly still don't understand why they went that way. Maybe my total lack of experience when it comes to asking on chats etc don't let me understand it.

Anyway, let's move on, I don't want to annoy anyone else Wink

Yours,
Albert
