Newbies / Re: Deauthentication cutting the connection ?
« on: December 14, 2017, 02:19:37 PM »
I might have explained this in the past a few times but anyway, the behavior depends on the device. Some will notify you they got disconnected and reconnect automatically. Some will not reconnect automatically and tell you (or not). Some will reconnect automatically and not tell you since it doesn't matter much.

That specific chipset is known to have a lot of issues: firmware crashing, no monitor mode (not capturing any packet).

Please take the time to search the forum for that specific chipset and you'll see other people having the exact same issues.

Long story short: use another adapter, this one's doomed.

Your BIOS might not like USB thumbdrives but Kali doesn't force to use a DVD to install.

As I mention, apt-get upgrade doesn't upgrade the kernel, use dist-upgrade instead.

It might have an old version of aircrack-ng. Distro repositories (with exception of Kali, pentoo and other pentesting distro) have an old version, very old.

Your capture file doesn't contain a complete handshake. Check out https://aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=wpa_capture to understand the issue.

You are most likely doing something wrong. I highly recommend reading our guide in the wiki,

Well, when compiling, if pkg-config is missing, there will be a few lines complaining about it right before failure.

1. Some drivers don't send control packets (ACKs and such) to packet capture programs, they are handled internally with the chip.
2. You'll have to figure out what changed as I don't know what's your set-up now and I can't know for sure what it was in the past.

FYI and I'm repeating myself, do a dist-upgrade instead of upgrade. upgrade doesn't update kernel and such.

Another thing: Kali 2017.3 has been released a week ago.

You'll probably need to create another tool to do extra filtering before piping to aircrack-ng.

Here is one example: https://forum.aircrack-ng.org/index.php/topic,1688.0.html

I was lazy and just looked at the first page of Newbies section.

There is a lot of recent post about it. I'll let you find them because they're the first few posts in different parts of the forum.

Newbies / Re: tp-link tl-wn722n v1 Not supported on Windows

That's because on Windows, only Airpcap is supported (unless you're willing to create a dll to communicate with your card).

You're a bit too vague. We'll need more details to tell you what to use.

What commands and what output did you receive?

What were you expecting?

General help / Re: Monitor Mode failing: Operation not supported
« on: November 13, 2017, 01:18:28 AM »
The fact it cannot determine the driver most likely means it's a vendor driver and it is well known that vendors don't provide monitor mode in their driver.

If there is any mac80211 driver available for that device, you need to use it to be able to use monitor mode.

As mentioned in multiple post in this forum, often, the capture is done in b/g mode while devices are in 802.11n/ac mode and thus not visible in the capture.
