General help / Re: Alfa wifi cards Q2/2017
« on: Today at 02:44:05 AM »
anything using ath9k then but you'll be limited to 1 stream. There is another card, AWUS036AC but the driver is very unstable and crappy. It is present as a package in Kali.

Why powerful? Power is only useful for distance (2+ miles). Invest in good quality antennas. And not high gains omni, it's pointless due to their radiation pattern.

Why do you want an Alfa?

Have you checked the recommended cards in the FAQ in the wiki?

Alfa uses a bunch of different chipsets which means different drivers (and behaving differently as well as having different qualities/weaknesses).

What chipset is it?

Could you send me both files so I can try to reproduce the issue? If you're not comfortable with the forum, email them to me (see contact email on website).

1. What CPU are you using?
2. What distro are you using? Kernel version?
3. What version of aircrack-ng is it?

Updating kernel on those systems is really hard (not really doable for almost everybody) due to the fact they're heavily modified.

Find another wordlist. We have plenty mentioned in the FAQ. Plus you can also mangle, use other tools such as crunch, rsmangler.

I'm sure reading the website would have answered your question.

Well, the TV has to be somehow ON to receive IR signals to turn everything on, so I guess they leave wifi enabled.

For anybody wondering, it's in the main repos now.

Have you killed the network managers prior to doing the injection test?

Useful stuff / Re: Installing Backports Wireless Drivers

An old distro like Ubuntu 12.04.

High quality antenna is better than tx power. By long distance I meant 10s of miles.

Are you doing long distance links? If not, then there isn't much need in increasing tx power then. If you really want to do it anyway, you'll have to get an old distro.
