e1000 is the wired network card.

That wireless card should work just fine on any recent distro. However, if you are running in a VM, then you won't be able to use it in there, you would have to get a USB device.

I'n not entirely sure if my wireless card is compatible for aircrack. I have a 3160NGW on my laptop. I"m running ubuntu 64 on virtual box.

I've ran dmesg | grep enp0s3 to see if my wireless card was recognized by the system and it returned

[    4.799570] e1000 0000:00:03.0 enp0s3: renamed from eth0
[   29.007889] e1000: enp0s3 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX
[   29.008604] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): enp0s3: link becomes ready

and when I type iwconfig i get:

lo              no wireless extension
enp0s3      no wireless extension

I have not compiled the driver yet because I am also trying to learn how to build my kernel to do so.

So ultimately, do I need to buy a new wireless card or is my card compatible?
