Title: airodump-ng with channel -1
Post by: swsooue on July 11, 2017, 07:37:56 am
Hello to all,
with airodump-ng I see the list of available wifi, and there is a wifi with ESSID = <lenght: 0>, so I know that this wifi is hidden. No problem.

But airodump-ng tell me also:
Channel: -1
Power: -1

What is this ??

How can I get the channel number ??
And why it tell me channel -1 and power -1 ??

Many thanks

Gigi

So, what happened here is that airodump-ng caught a frame coming from a client to the AP (and based on that, it can show the AP BSSID).
And that means you're way to far to see/hear the AP, you need to get closer to it.

Channel/power is -1 because the frame is from a client and the channel it was detected on is not necessarily the channel the AP is on. Regarding the power, it is displayed based on the device sending it. So, for the top part, the AP, signal is displayed for packets sent by the AP. For the bottom part, the signal displayed is based on the signal from packets sent from all those stations.
