Aircrack-ng limitations
« on: December 11, 2015, 04:19:12 pm »

Hello everyone,
I have to create an android app for university. This app needs to see who is using WiFi, so I thought about aircrack-ng. But, I read like everywhere that aircrack cannot be run without making "dirty" modifications on android. However, Broadcom chipset seem to allow aircrack-ng to run. My phone doesn't have that kind of chipset card, so I have clearly tell my responsible teacher why it can't work. So, what is the difference between broadcom cards and other cards? What concretely does make the app run under broadcom chipset?
I searched on the web, but didn't find any relevant and precise information.
Thanks for your help, and sorry for my English.

I never tested that chipset. But anyway, as you probably know, Aircrack-ng require monitor mode to work.

Most embedded (99.9%) chipsets don't have monitor mode in order to limit power consumption (and most people don't need monitor mode) and I guess that Broadcom chipset was the exception.
