WI-FI cards range tests (Last update : 28-03-2015)
« on: April 15, 2014, 10:23:08 pm »

Hello everyone , i am testing some wi-fi cards range and injection with aircrack-ng on kali linux , so , for those witch have some doubts to witch card shall buy i will leave here the results from some i already tested .
If you have 2 models of wi-fi cards then be free to post your results with pictures .
i used Linssid from linux , but other tools could be interesting .
First let me say in witch type of area i live :
I live in a isolated house where the space between my house and the next one is +- 15m to left and right , and +- 10m to front and back to next house .

I have been testing y wifi cards for sometime , and i did not notice any change in power like manufacturers say .
One of my cards have 2000mw power = 30db , but on reception i did not notice any better signal recieved even when i apply the region code on my linux distro : "iw reg set BO" . So i made aan order on ebay to get a sanhuns 2500mw amplifier over B/G/N frequencies .
when i recieve it i will do  quick test just to look the difference between region code (without amplifier conected) , and without region code but with amplifier connected .

So , here it is the results from my wi-fi cards :
New Updates will be posted from now on on top of the page

Update 28/03/2015

I decided to buy a wifi booster to make some tests with it and without it , i got the Sunhans 2,5W :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUNHANS-SH-2500-2-5W-34dB-2-4G-Wireless-Network-WiFi-Amplifier-Booster-Repeater-/261628383504
Was not from this seller , but it was the exact same model .
Anyway , i notice a very nice reception signal from APS that i could not get before , so i made 2 tests .
One test with one wifi card with Chipset RTL8187L , and other test with other card with chipset RA3017 .
I created an image with the tests so you all can check it out for consulting .

You can check the image only with its original size on this next link :
http://s7.postimg.cc/hx1x1i9pn/booster_tests.jpg

Note : I notice also the the noise rate also increased , witch means that some APS with -60dbm (witch is acceptable) , i have a lot of timeouts , and some of them with that signal i m not able to catch the handshake .
I have also created an AP and used the booster , i notice that AP broadcast almost to 800m , but at 700m with a signal of -67dbm i get a lot of communication errors due the noise around .

update : 29-10-2014

AWUS036NHV - RTL8188EUS I was unable to retrieve signals from APS in linux due the fact that at this time the current driver is on staging .
I saw the networks but not quality of signal , so i decided to do the scans on windows for reference .
Wireless card in monitor is not functional yet , we have to wait for new drivers .

You will see wlan0 on this card , but it is according to this thread the wlan5 .
I prepared a new computer to create an access point , and that is the reason why wlan5 is now wlan0 .
The card used was : Crotalus USB 500mw  and i used the original drivers from kali without patch and i used my 12dbi external antenna on the top of my house with 12 meters of CFD 400 cable .
The antenna :

This was a test to see if i could crack low power WiFi stations , and i did it successfully .

Hello Pedropt.
I also have a RTL8188RU based wifi but I do NOT have such bad figures, as you show in your tests!
I think there must have been be some mistake in your configuration.
Note also the Yagi antenna results for all other wifis is outstanding, only for the RTL8188RU is very bad: that doesn't seem plausible.

Can you please double-check your tests about RTL8188RU+small_antenna, and about RTL8188RU+Yagi?
Greetings

this alfa awus036nhr is fake , i know that because it does not come with the original hologram .
I only notice that when i received it from varia store .
I also check alfa website in taiwan to know if it was fake , and i get the conclusion that it was because it did not pass all the tests they show in their site .
I try to hack its registry to see if goes to more than 20dbm , but it did not go far as that value .
Original alfa comes with original mac address and serial number  on the bottom of it , this one i have did not came .
that was the reason why i wrote in the first post : Not Original .

I was going to buy a AWUS036NHR for 30 Euros on ebay but according to your tests it's the absolute worst! Can anyone with an original AWUS036NHR confirm?

my bad luck that i got a fake NHR , so you probably should look on youtube for other people tests .
Also the reception of many APS depend also in the location you live or where you test it .
If you live in a building or in a city with many building around you should get a lot of APS .

here it is an example video from a test between 036nhr and 036h :

check other videos on youtube .
